COMMUNITY SUPPORT

A note about the impact of COVID-19 on the way we serve our community: Folsom Street lost 89% of our revenue in 2020, and 78% in 2021. As a result we had to reevaluate how we serve our community as a 501c3 nonprofit. We’ve changed the way our events are run since not having the resources to issue direct grants to the dozens of organizations we’ve worked with in the past. We have created opportunities for our partner organizations to fundraise at our events, and in 2021 we opened a community center in SOMA (which is nearing our third year in operation!) We support dozens of local organizations, groups and clubs, welcoming hundreds of community members to classes, arts and culture events, and social events. We’ve partnered with the SFDPH to continue to offer clear health information and access to our communities, and will keep looking for ways to serve the whole alternative sexualities community!

Folsom Street’s events raise funds to support our programs, including the fair that has no equal anywhere and our Community Center. Since Folsom Street first began, the organization has donated over $7 million and has paid hundreds of artists, performers, and local workers.

We work with local nonprofits in large and small ways at our events and center. Each one is carefully selected because of the profound difference they make in our communities, and we are so proud to partner with them.

We now partner with TurnOut to recruit and train our amazing volunteers to help our run our events. Rooting our work in the community service that started our events in 1984 keeps us running and keeps our communities connected!
